Our Breeding Program

Quality begins before training ever starts.

A great protection dog is not a product of training alone. It is the result of deliberate genetics, responsible selection, and bloodlines built over generations for exactly this purpose.

Where It Begins

It's all about genetics.

Every dog we develop starts with a question: does this animal have what it takes before we ever ask anything of it? Temperament, nerve strength, drive, environmental confidence, and the capacity to be trained at the highest level, these are not things you build from scratch. They come from the bloodline.

At Colina, we do not breed for quantity. We breed for a standard. That means working with kennels and bloodlines that have a proven history of producing dogs that perform in real life, not just in a ring or on a field. Every generation should move us closer to dogs that are clearer in mind, stronger in character, and better suited for the work we ask of them.

European Bloodlines

Our Belgian Malinois

Our Belgian Malinois come from the finest kennels and bloodlines in Europe. We work with names like Des Malistaffs and Au Paradis d’Orsy in France, and Joris Kennel in Belgium — programs with a long history of producing dogs that perform at the highest level in protection, law enforcement, and working dog sport.

Legends of the breed like Churchmount Jurko and A’Tim run through our bloodlines. These are not marketing names. They are animals that defined what a Malinois should be, and whose genetics continue to influence the quality of dogs produced today.

Selective breeding in the Malinois is essential because the breed’s potential can only be realized when the fundamentals are right from the start. We prioritize nerve strength, work ethic, athleticism, and stability — producing dogs with superior intelligence and drive that are equally capable in protection work and daily life.

Holland Police Selection

KNPV Bloodlines

The KNPV, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Politiehond Vereniging or Royal Dutch Police Dog Association, is one of the most demanding and respected working dog programs in the world. Established in the Netherlands, it has set the standard for producing highly skilled, resilient, and versatile dogs capable of performing in police, military, and personal protection roles at the highest level.

KNPV dogs are not trained for sport. The program is built around real-world functionality  obedience, tracking, criminal apprehension, bite work, and the ability to remain stable and precise in unpredictable environments. The standards are high, and only dogs with the right genetics, temperament, and capability make it through.

Our access to KNPV bloodlines gives us a foundation that very few breeders outside of Europe can match. These dogs are trusted by law enforcement agencies and security professionals worldwide for a reason, and that foundation runs directly through our program.

Slovakia and Turkey

Bandogs and Kangals

For clients who need a higher-deterrence profile, we work with two breeds recognized globally for their protective instinct, physical presence, and loyalty: the Bandog and the Kangal.

Our Bandog lines come from Andante Bandog in Slovakia, one of the most respected programs in Europe for this breed. Our Kangals come from specialized shepherd breeders in Turkey, where the breed has been developed over centuries to protect livestock and families against real threats in demanding conditions.

Both breeds combine imposing physical presence with a natural guarding instinct that no amount of training alone can replicate. What sets the dogs from our program apart is that this instinct is paired with the intelligence, stability, and trainability required to function in a controlled, handler-directed way. Size and presence without control is not protection. It is a liability. Our Bandogs and Kangals are neither.

Why Bloodlines Matter

What we select for, and why

Nerve Strength

A dog with weak nerves cannot be a reliable protection dog, regardless of training. We select for animals that are confident, stable, and unfazed by pressure, from the very first generation.

Work Ethic

Drive is genetic. A dog that wants to work, that finds purpose in the task, performs at a different level than one that has to be pushed. We breed for dogs that are motivated from the inside.

Environmental Confidence

Our dogs are exposed to real-world environments from the earliest stages. But that adaptability starts in the genetics. We select bloodlines known for producing dogs that are naturally confident in new and unpredictable situations.

Health and Structure

A working dog that breaks down physically cannot do its job. We prioritize health, correct structure, and longevity alongside performance traits, because a great dog needs to hold up over a lifetime.

Temperament

The ability to live calmly inside a home, around people, children, and daily routine, while carrying full protection capability, is not common. It is what we select for above everything else.

Consistency Across Generations

We are not interested in producing one exceptional dog. We are interested in producing a program that produces exceptional dogs, reliably, generation after generation.
